Curtis Hanson directs Michael
Douglas as the struggling writer Grady Tripp who is trying to
cope with his fame (he hasn't had a thing published since his
Great American Novel 7 years ago). Grady teams up with a brilliant
and gifted student named James Leer (Tobey Maguire) who is a
liar and gets Grady Tripp in all sorts of trouble. Frances McDormand
plays Douglas' lover Sara Gaskell. Katie Holmes, Robert Downey
Jr., Richard Thomas and Rip Torn also star. Steve Kloves adapted
Michael Chabon's novel for the screenplay.
