Angela Shelton's childhood memoirs, Tumbleweeds is a heartfelt
tale of the journey that a mother and daughter take to find a
place they can finally call home. Emerging from the backwaters
of the working class South, Mary Jo (1997 Tony Award winner Janet
McTeer) and her daughter Ava (Kimberly Brown) find themselves
on the run from yet another of Mary Jo's failed relationships.
Armed only with Southern charm and an unwavering sense of optimism,
the two trek across the country in search of the independence
that has thus far eluded them. Despite her resolve to stand on
her own two feet, Mary Jo soon finds that old habits die hard.
Within weeks of settling in sunny San Diego, Mary Jo connects
with yet another soon-to-be-ex-husband. This time, however, when
the relationship disintegrates Ava refuses to run. The free spirited
life that has carried them for so long now threatens to pull
them apart.
