Disgusted
with Hollywood's trivialities, a comedy director named John L.
Sullivan (Joel McCrea) disguises himself as a bum and sets off
with 10 cents in his pocket to discover America from the bottom
up. Along the way, he encounters a beautiful outcast (Veronica
Lake) and learns that what the downtrodden need most is laughter.
