The
definitive version of the Dickens classic about the young British
orphan Pip (played first by Anthony Wager and later by John Mills)
who is befriended by a mysterious benefactor who enables him
to become a gentleman of means. In the gloom of a country graveyard,
the young boy encounters an escaped convict Magwitch (Finlay
Currie), a chance meeting that years later leads the boy to mysterious
adventure, wealth and joy. Considered by many to be among the
greatest films ever made.
